Philip, along with his fellow trustees, is responsible for reviewing the investment management structure of the assets of The Metal Box Pension Scheme, which currently amount to some £1.5 billion. Philip became U.K. pensions manager of CarnaudMetalbox Group U.K. Limited in 1999.
Previously, Philip was pensions manager at the General Electric Company, plc. He also served as an actuary in both the United Kingdom and South Africa. In the United Kingdom, Philip was a partner with Towers Perrin, and in South Africa, he served as a partner in a leading firm of consulting actuaries.
Philip has a B.Sc. (Hons) degree in physics from Rhodes University in South Africa. He is a fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and is currently a fellow, a member of the council and a vice president of the U.K. Pensions Management Institute. He is also an independent trustee, appointed by the department of trade and industry, to the British Coal Staff Superannuation Scheme, with assets of £11 billion.
