Brandes Investment Partners, L.P. ("Brandes") Secure Web Delivery
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is Brandes encrypting e-mail?
Protecting the privacy of sensitive information is a top priority at Brandes. In keeping with this ongoing commitment, Brandes has strengthened its controls around the handling of confidential data sent via e-mail. Brandes’ e-mail system allows us to send encrypted e-mail communication with greater confidence that confidential, proprietary and sensitive information is protected from unauthorized viewing or malicious intervention.
What is CRES?
Cisco Registered Envelope Service, or “CRES”, is a method of delivering encrypted e-mail accessed with a standard web browser. Microsoft’s Internet Explorer or Mozilla’s Firefox are recommended.
With CRES, you receive secure e-mail as an encrypted HTML page in your browser.
Why not TLS?
Transport Layer Security, or "TLS", is a protocol that e-mail servers can use to secure messages. One benefit of using TLS is that it does not require additional software on your desktop, or any other intervention by the sender or recipient.
Most e-mail systems, including Brandes’, use TLS as their default method for communicating securely. If you would like to use TLS instead of CRES, please contact your e-mail administrator.
