Brandes RISE Mentorship Program Mentors

We’ve provided synopses of their professional backgrounds and a Q&A to amplify the experience and motivation they bring to the program.

Jason Manley

  • Research Associate

Jason Manley is a Research Associate on the Basic Materials Team, and also has experience covering select telecommunication and consumer companies. Prior to joining Brandes in 2020, Jason was a Research Analyst intern at Thompson Research Group in Nashville, Tennessee. Jason earned his BA in Economics with minors in Cognitive Science and Mathematics from the University of California, San Diego and his MS in Finance from Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management.

Q: Why did you pursue a career in investment management?
A: In college, I had my first job where I was able to save money so I thought I ought to learn to invest. My first trade was a -20% return, and instead of quitting, I became obsessed with the art of trying to outperform the market. Once I achieved some modest success, I became hooked with the investment profession. To me investing is a perpetual puzzle, in which the facts are always changing, and it’s your job as an investor to foresee how things are going to evolve around the world, and predict how businesses and security prices might react. No matter how much you think you know, you can always learn more, creating a continuous learning process that I believe fits me well. I hope to remain in the investment management business for the rest of my career.
