San Diego, CA (February 5, 2024) – Brandes Investment Partners today announced that Oliver Murray, Managing Director of Portfolio Management and Client Services, will become Chief Executive Officer on May 1. Mr. Murray will succeed Brent Woods, the firm’s CEO since 2013.
Mr. Murray joined the firm in 2002 and is responsible for the firm’s client service and business development efforts globally. Among his many contributions, he led the opening of the firm’s Canadian mutual fund business (Bridgehouse Asset Managers) in 2002, the opening of the firm’s Singapore affiliate (Brandes Asia) in 2012, and the launch of three exchange-traded funds in 2023.
Mr. Woods, who joined Brandes in 1995, is being appointed president of the firm’s general partner, and will play a broad oversight and support role for the firm. He will continue to serve on the firm’s International Large-Cap Investment Committee and Investment Oversight Committee. Prior to becoming CEO, Mr. Woods served as managing director of the investments division.
The firm’s general partner issued the following statement: “The elevation of two experienced leaders to new roles—Oliver Murray as CEO and Brent Woods as president of our general partner―reflects Brandes’ commitment to an orderly succession that will help ensure strong leadership for the future. We are confident that this action will ensure the continuity of our strategy and client-service culture, and will position us well as we adapt to new challenges and opportunities in a dynamic investment marketplace.”
Mr. Murray noted, “I am honored to have been named the next CEO of Brandes. Since I joined the firm more than two decades ago, I have had the privilege to work with an exceptional group of talented and dedicated investment professionals who embody Brandes’ commitment to character, integrity, and providing investment excellence. I look forward to leading our team as we continue to grow and strengthen our position as a leading value investment firm.”
